Welcome to Botany 401- Vascular Flora of Wisconsin
In this course, students learn and practice the principles of plant taxonomy in the field, in the lab and in the herbarium. Students gain hands-on field experience with site-identification, botanical terminology and keying in a variety of plant communities throughout southern Wisconsin, as well as the UW Arboretum. In addiition, students learn and utilize the key characteristics of major plant families found in Wisconsin and throughout the world to create and curate plant collections that will be incorporated into the UW Student Herbarium. In the process of creating their collections, students become familiar with key tools and technologies used in modern plant systematics.
